Devonshire Road Primary School has been reaccredited with the Centre of Excellence in Financial Education Award by Young Enterprise, a national financial and enterprise education charity.
The award celebrates our dedication to teaching pupils essential financial skills, such as money management, budgeting, understanding debt, and distinguishing needs from wants.
Research shows that children's attitudes around money develop at a young age and by equipping them with the tools to navigate money management, we're giving them a head start in becoming financially responsible adults.
Brian Souter, DebtAware education manager, said: "Devonshire Road School has always fully embraced the programme, the teachers being very supportive and the children involved in the lessons. It is wonderful to see a school preparing young children for the future and delivering such a vital life skill to the children in the school."
We are proud to announce that we have been awarded the NCCE Computing Quality Mark after a formal assessment of our curriculum.
The quality mark assesses each school under 8 categories:
- Leadership and vision
- Curriculum
- Teaching, learning and assessment
- Workforce development
- Addressing the needs of each pupil
- Enrichment, destinations and careers
- Digital skills and AI
- Impact and Outcomes
We achieved a Level 4 in each category, which is above the national average.
A huge thanks goes to Miss Hay for her exceptional work on the subject, which reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality lessons around the safe use of digital technology.
We are thrilled to announce that Devonshire Road Primary has achieved the Gold Standard Equalities Award. This recognises our proactive approach to equality, diversity and inclusion across our school. We thank Mrs. Atcha and Mrs. Bullough for their hard work on compiling the evidence. This award is dedicated to our amazing school community of parents, carers, staff in school, volunteers, children and governors who all work together to ensure that our children at Devonshire Road Primary receive the very best education and opportunities, regardless of their background.
The report states:
"Congratulations on achieving your Gold Equalities Award! This demonstrates not only a commitment to equality, but that this work has been embedded, is creating a positive impact, and that Devonshire Road can stand proudly as a beacon of good practice for other schools to learn from."

We are proud to announce that Devonshire Road has been awarded the Gold Award for The Historical Association Quality Mark. The Historical Association Quality Mark is an award that recognises the excellence of history provision in a school. The Quality Mark assess and values the history provision of the teacher, their department and the school and what is being offered to young people. The Quality Mark is valid for 3 years.
Huge thanks and congratulations go to Mr Abraham for co-ordinating this, and to all the staff and children who were interviewed and observed for this accreditation.

We are very proud at Devonshire Road Primary School to be accredited the Investors in Pupils Award, showing our practice is 'Embedded'.
Investors in Pupils (IIP) helps pupils find out about their school, the school budget and the jobs of everyone in it. The award aims to support children in setting targets for their class and for themselves whilst recognising the importance of the roles and responsibilities of everyone involved in their education, and how they as pupils, can make a difference.
Target Setting
Children in each class are encouraged to set their own targets, as well as a target for the entire class to work towards. The children regularly review their targets to improve continually. This then helps them to achieve one of our 3B's - Be The Best You Can Be.
Class Promises
The children write class promises each year, thinking about the class ethos and how they believe they should behave in the classroom. All children in the class agree to the promise and sign them before they are displayed in the classrooms.
Induction Booklet
Each class has made an induction book to help new children and staff to understand what happens in their classroom. They include lots of information, for example, details about staff who work with them, pupil jobs in the classroom and weekly routines.
Class Budgets
During ‘Investors Week’, Key Stage 2 children investigated the school budget to find out how the school spends its money. The children found out how much resources cost and now have their own budget to spend on resources for their class. Children also interviewed Mrs Branagan to see where all the money goes and how much it costs to run a school.
Governor Roles
Governors speak regularly with the children and are interviewed by the children about their roles and responsibilities. We also carry out whole-school assemblies, where the roles of Governors are discussed and explained.
In 2023, Devonshire Road Primary School achieved the Gold Picture News Impact Award. The accreditors felt that our whole school project to reduce food waste has been a fantastic learning journey for all our children, our families and the wider community. The waste warriors did a fantastic job of weighing all the food waste, and our plan to help support the youngest children was commented upon as well.
We will continue to make an impact across the school and in the community, showing all children that small changes can mount up together to make a big difference.
Well done to everyone involved in the accreditation!
We are delighted that Devonshire Road Primary School achieved the School Games Gold Award for the 2024/2025 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme, facilitated by Youth Sports Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for the successes of the 2024/2025 year.
In the 2024/2025 academic year, we supported pupils on the pupil premium register and those who lack confidence to attend events, and overall, we participated in 30 competitive tournaments and events.
The report states that we have a 'really good ethos of providing equal opportunities for the children at your school' and that we 'understand the power of school sport and how it can shape the lives of your students.'
A huge thanks to Mrs Simmons for her commitment to improving the healthy lifestyles of all our school community!
